UMNO WITH MALAYSIAKINI: Puteri is offering their service

If we go by the norm,
half of the population is females. For UMNO, half of the supporters could easily be ladies. Like it or not, Wanita and Puteri can combine effort to pave the way into the grassroots with success. Anyway, ladies presence may not cause any threat, and there is no way heated and intimidating atmosphere could emerge.

2. That could be an interesting avenue to go for. Welcome Noraini!

Puteri to test the waters

Puteri Umno will be sending advance teams today to Bukit Gantang and Bukit Selambau.
The teams, consisting of five members each, will analyse what the Barisan Nasional needs to do to wrest back the seats from Pakatan Rakyat.

Puteri Umno head Datuk Noraini Ahmad said yesterday members were asked to turun padang to analyse the situation.

Noraini said Puteri Umno would be using its soft-sell mesra rakyat approach of campaigning.
She added the movement would depend on local members to provide feedback on what would be the best activities to conduct in the areas.

"Most Puteri programmes have to do with young women. For example, we will conduct activities relating to children, health and youth."

Asked if the charm offensive would work, considering the mood around the country, especially in Perak, Noraini said it had been a tried and tested strategy.

"Being nice to people is the best approach and my advice to Puteri members is just to be one with the people."

She said she had advised Puteri members to put their differences aside and not indulge in any lobbying if the by-elections were held before the Umno general assembly next month.

She declined to comment on whether the BN was confident of retaining the Bukit Gantang parliamentary seat and the Bukit Selambau state seat.

She said the BN was riding a new wave of confidence with a change in the people's attitude towards the coalition.
